Deuteronomy 11:1-15 The Israelites were commanded to the love the Lord and keep His commandments. Remember what the Lord did to Pharaoh and Egypt. Remember what they the Lord did to some the of the Israelites by punishing them in the Wilderness. They are to be strong and enter the land of their possession. The Lord stated that His eyes are always on the land they are about possess and that He cares for it. If they Israelites will just love and obey the Lord, He will give the land rain in its season so it will produce food for them and their livestock.
Notes: The command to love is grounded in God’s gracious rescue of Israel from Egypt.
Deuteronomy 11:16-23 The Israelites were not to worship other gods that are believed by the nations around them. If they do, the Lord shall prevent the rains so that they would perish from the land. The are to remember these words from the Lord and teach them to their children so their days should be multiplied and the Lord will drive all the people out of the land they are about to posses.
Notes: If the Lord is not acknowledged as the provider of rain (11:14), he will cause the rain to stop.
Deuteronomy 11:24-32 If the Israelites did all the God commanded them, He would xtend their lands from the wilderness to Lebanon and from the river Euphrates to the Western Sea. No one should stand against them for God will cause the people around them to fear them. The Lord set before them a blessing and a curse: the blessing if the obey and the curse if they did not obey.
Notes: Because of Israel’s disobedience, the complete promise of the whole land still remains, to be fulfilled in the future kingdom of Messiah.
