Deuteronomy 5:1-27 Moses retold the story about the Lord spoke to the Israelites the 10 commandments. They were afraid to hear God’s voice for they feared they would die. They asked that Moses would mediate between them and the Lord.
Notes: All but the Sabbath commandment and the commandment against carved images are explicitly reinforced in the NT.
Deuteronomy 5:28-33 The Lord approved of the Israelites request for it showed how much the feared or reverenced the Lord, although the Lord wished that they would always believes this way. God then told to just Moses the rest of His commands and statutes and the rules that He wanted Moses to teach the Israelites. If the Israelites obeyed the Lord, they would live long, and things would go well from them in the land they were about to possess.
Notes: God’s wish is that their holy and appropriate fear at the theophany of Horeb would become a permanent fear of the Lord in their hearts.
